EDMONTONIANS TOLD TO REMOVE RACKS FROM EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

In a letter dated May 18, 2007 Edmontonians was notified of Edmonton Airports plan to evict the magazine from the facility on July 31, 2007.

For the past 15 years, Edmontonians magazine has been available free of charge to patrons at the Edmonton International Airport. Each month, upwards of 8,000 copies are accessed by travelers departing and arriving at the airport.

May 7, 2007: You should see how many people are reading the Edmontonians Magazine here in the U.S. Departure lounge area of the airport. Really. The issue is timely, has relevant info and is distributed to high traffic places. And now, I can actually SEE the payoff right in front of me as I bang out this email. So keep it up!

Sincerely (and proud to be part of your team), -  Greg Michetti, President, Michetti Information Solutions

 CALL TO ACTION!

We need your support to help overturn this decision that could adversely affect Edmontonians reputation and well-being...a decision that will deny a community service obviously appreciated by Airport patrons.

Our March 2006 cover story featured Reg Milley, president and CEO of Edmonton Airports, and his key managers. Les Brost wrote: His management style leans toward inclusion and collaboration, and he likes to keep an open door and an open mind. Yet Mr. Milley has just closed the door on Edmontonians.

He is further quoted: We want to be a customer focused, dynamic airport that positions this region in the best possible light. For 18 years, Edmontonians has been the voice of everything that is great about Greater Edmonton. Its dynamic business and community leaders, their entrepreneurial spirit, their perseverance and commitment despite the vagaries of our boom and bust economy. In recent months, national publishers have finally realized that Edmonton exists, and are trying to cash in our robust economy. Many have launched compact daily give-aways that recycle national news stories and provide minimal local coverage, often compressed from their Big Sister dailies. Where were they during the lean years when local, independents struggled to survive.

The case for Edmontonians has been presented in a letter to Mr. Milley and a meeting is scheduled with him for Monday, June 25. In the interim, we want Edmontonians who believe Edmontonians fulfills a worthwhile service to voice their concern.  We ask you to support the continued availability of Edmontonians magazine at Edmonton International Airport. Protect and preserve independent journalism that celebrates Alberta’s Capital Region. Please contact any of the following Airport representatives.
